Viharamaha Devi Park

Viharamahadevi Park or Victoria Park is a very popular destination for wedding photography. The location situated right middle of a busy area in Colombo next to the national museum but the beauty and peace it holds are unmatched. It is the oldest and the largest park in Colombo. Named after queen Viharamaha Devi, the park rich in both natural environment and wonderful architecture of its’ modern and colonial era.

Even though the park is a public place, permission is needed to shoot video or photo in the park. Permission for the wedding and pre-wedding shoots can be obtained from Colombo Municipal Council and the fee is Rs. 2340/= for wedding pre-shoot. There is no time limit

Sri Lankan Heritage

Independence Square

This symbolic cultural architectural building is iconic to Sri Lanka. Situated in a calm environment it is also rich in natural beauty. This is a great place to shoot traditional Kandyan weddings as the architecture of the building is inspired by old Sinhalese architecture from ancient kingdoms.

To use this location for the wedding and pre-wedding photos and videos, you have to obtain permission from the department of cultural affairs. You will need the following set of items to apply for permission.

  • Dully filled application
  • Wedding invitation
  • The letter of permission will be issued either to bride or to the groom or to mother/father.

Wetland park Beddagana is a hidden gem for wedding photographers. There are several different setups to experience in a small area. This is being handled by urban development authority Srilanka. So you have to get permissions from them.

If you are planning to have a garden theme wedding photo shoot or pre-shoot, Diyatha Uyana- Broad walk is just the place you should book for it. Surrounded by greenery and water the landscape just gives the best natural backdrops with gorgeous scenery

Fortunately shooting in the Diyatha Uyana is free and you don’t need permission beforehand.
